Best baseball card set(s) to collect for my son who is just starting out?
Main Post:
My son just turned 9. Loves baseball in general. Plays youth baseball. Wants to start collecting baseball cards purely for fun and love of the game....not as an investment.
I haven't collected since the 80s/early 90s. There used to be several brands to choose from (Fleer, Donruss, Topps, Upper Deck, Bowman, Leaf). From my limited research so far....unlike today...those brands did not have multiple lines or subsets. Just one base set. I used to just select the design I liked each year and collect favorite teams/players across brands.
So needless to say, I am a bit overwhelmed on where to start my son out with the amount of brands and each brand's corresponding multiple lines/subsets. I am also overwhelmed by each set's "inserts" and exclusives. Are any of the sets' inserts & exclusives more fun for a kid to try to collect?
Any opinions on where to start to get young kids interested in baseball cards would be very much appreciated!
Top Comment: Big league and Opening Day are targeted for young kids and set collectors.
My son wants an original Charizard card, I found one locally and want to get it for him for Christmas. I do not know much about Pokemon cards. Is this an original? : PokemonTCG

Card for son’s birthday
Main Post:
I made this card yesterday for my son’s birthday next Saturday. Making it gave me a little bit of respite from the impending doom in my mind watching Hurricane Milton form and set its sights on where I live. My son already got his birthday present, and we likely won’t have cake on Saturday, but hopefully the card brings him a tiny bit of happiness on his actual birthday.
Right NOW, Milton is forecast to hit as a cat 2/3 on Wednesday evening just south of me, but it’s still so far out, it could come back closer again, so definitely keeping an eye on it.
Incidentally, I think this will be a kick in the pants to actually cull my collection if Mother Nature doesn’t take the choice from me. I was looking at it yesterday thinking it could blow all over my neighbors’s lawns (if I lost my roof) and considering what I would replace. If I wouldn’t replace it, I should probably give it to someone who would appreciate it more. I’m on vacation (bad timing, apparently) on Thursday and Friday, so assuming my house is still fine, maybe that’s my “project”.

I LOVE these! I’m a total card addict. Can I ask which fonts you used for the inside writings? I’m trying to get my writing fonts all hashed out. And which font you used on the front of the first card?
